Abstract
Improved handling of couplable device recognition tasks in an electronic device such as a cell phone, smart phone, computer system, recording device or others is facilitated. Recognition of a couplable device such as a battery so as to enable exchange of power between the device and the battery or other couplable device functionality is determined by a match between one of a plurality of digital strings stored in the device and the decrypted response to an encrypted challenge derived from the one of stored strings. Control is exercised over the distribution of the encryption elements which enable the improved handling of the tasks.
Claims20
Method comprising:
- providing a first cryptographic element to be incorporated into an electronic device;
- providing second cryptographic elements to be incorporated into devices couplable to the electronic device and which enable the exchange of encrypted messages between cooperating first and second cryptographic elements with a matched exchange causing an electronic device to recognize a couplable device;
- and
- controlling the distribution of the second cryptographic elements so as to control the provision of couplable devices capable of a matched exchange, the controlling comprising
- distinguishing among a plurality of models of the second cryptographic elements which have sets of public and private keys which differ one from another and
- supplying differing models of the second cryptographic elements to differing suppliers of couplable devices which incorporate one of the models of the second cryptographic elements and which couple to the electronic device.
Method comprising:
- producing paired public and private keys as first and second cryptographic elements to be incorporated into electronic devices which accommodate line and battery power and into batteries;
- and
- controlling distribution of the second cryptographic elements to battery manufacturers;
- the first and second cryptographic elements exchanging encrypted messages derived from a selected one of a plurality of digital strings maintained in the electronic devices so that a matched exchange will enable an electronic device to recognize a battery and exchange power with the recognized battery.
