Using route narrative symbols

A computer-implemented method, comprising:

• identifying a maneuver associated with a route from an origin to a destination;
• obtaining information specifying one or more attributes of the maneuver, the attributes comprising at least one of a maneuver type associated with the maneuver or a roadway referenced by the maneuver;
• identifying one or more candidate symbols for the maneuver type associated with the maneuver, the candidate symbols being associated with corresponding priority values;
• and
• determining, using at least one processor, a symbol corresponding to the maneuver, based on at least the obtained attributes of the maneuver and the priority values of the candidate symbols.

An apparatus, comprising:

• a storage device;
• and
• at least one processor coupled to the storage device, wherein the storage device stores a program for controlling the at least one processor, and wherein the at least one processor, being operative with the program, is configured to:
• identify a maneuver associated with a route from an origin to a destination;
• obtain information specifying one or more attributes of the identified maneuver, the attributes comprising at least one of a maneuver type associated with the identified maneuver or a roadway referenced by the identified maneuver;
• identify one or more candidate symbols for the maneuver type associated with the identified maneuver, the candidate symbols being associated with corresponding priority values;
• and
• determine a symbol corresponding to the identified maneuver, based on at least at least the obtained attributes of the identified maneuver and the priority values of the candidate symbols.

A tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, perform a method identifying associated video content, the method comprising the steps of:

• identifying a maneuver associated with a route from an origin to a destination;
• obtaining information specifying one or more attributes of the maneuver, the attributes comprising at least one of a maneuver type associated with the maneuver or a roadway referenced by the maneuver;
• identifying one or more candidate symbols for the maneuver type associated with the maneuver, the candidate symbols being associated with corresponding priority values;
• and
• determining, using at least one processor, a symbol corresponding to the maneuver, based on at least the obtained attributes of the maneuver and the priority values of the candidate symbols.
