System and method for matching a query against a broadcast stream

A method for identifying a broadcast stream, comprising:

• receiving one or more broadcast streams;
• generating and storing an audio fingerprint of a selected portion of each received broadcast stream, together with extracted information from the broadcast stream;
• receiving a query;
• generating an audio fingerprint of the query;
• attempting to match the query fingerprint to the stored audio fingerprints, and if the match is successful, identifying the match result as a double match;
• identifying query audio content and the source of the query, using information from the stored audio fingerprints and the stored extracted information, and a database of indexed audio content;
• integrating the results of the identifying operation to identify either a broadcast stream match or a content match.

A method for identifying a broadcast stream, comprising:

• receiving one or more broadcast streams;
• generating and storing an audio fingerprint of a selected portion of each received broadcast stream;’
• receiving a query stream from a user device;
• generating an audio fingerprint of the query;
• predictively caching query audio fingerprint sequences and corresponding audio item identifiers from a server after storing query audio fingerprints, and using the predictively cached query audio fingerprint sequences to identify an audio item within the query based on at least some additional query audio fingerprints;
• identifying audio content from the query, using the query audio fingerprint and a database of indexed audio content;
• and
• identifying the source of the query using the query audio fingerprint and the stored audio fingerprints.

A method for identifying and interacting with a broadcast stream, comprising:

• receiving one or more broadcast streams;
• generating and storing an audio fingerprint of a selected portion of each received broadcast stream, together with extracted information from the broadcast stream;
• predictively caching audio fingerprint sequences and corresponding audio item identifiers from a server after the device sends initial audio fingerprints extracted from the audio signal by the device;
• receiving a query;
• generating an audio fingerprint of the query;
• attempting to match the query fingerprint to the stored audio fingerprints, and if the match is successful, identifying the match result as a double match;
• using the predictively cached audio fingerprint sequences to identify an audio item within the audio signal based on at least some additional audio fingerprints of the audio signal;
• identifying query audio content and the query broadcast stream, using information from the stored audio fingerprints and the stored extracted information, and a static database of indexed audio content;
• integrating the results of the identifying operation to identify either a broadcast stream match or a content match;
• responding to the query by providing the identified broadcast stream and content, together with a preselected number of content items most recently preceding the query.

A method for identifying and interacting with a broadcast stream, comprising:

• receiving one or more broadcast streams;
• generating and storing an audio fingerprint of a selected portion of each received broadcast stream, together with extracted information from the broadcast stream;
• predictively caching audio fingerprint sequences and corresponding audio item identifiers from a server after the device sends initial audio fingerprints extracted from the audio signal by the device;
• receiving a query;
• generating an audio fingerprint of the query;
• attempting to match the query fingerprint to the stored audio fingerprints, and if the match is successful, identifying the match result as a double match;
• using the predictively cached audio fingerprint sequences to identify an audio item within the audio signal based on at least some additional audio fingerprints of the audio signal;
• identifying query audio content and the query broadcast stream, using information from the stored audio fingerprints and the stored extracted information, and a static database of indexed audio content;
• integrating the results of the identifying operation to identify either a broadcast stream match or a content match;
• and
• in the event that consent has been received, posting at least a portion of the integrated results on a social media website.
