Abstract
A breast cavity spacer device, such as for use with a percutaneous lumpectomy, is provided. The device includes a body having a projection on one end. The body has a bore extending there through. A catheter is disposed at least partially within the bore. A balloon member is fluidly coupled on one end of the catheter, the balloon member having an elliptical shape.
Claims3
A cavity spacer device, the device comprising:
- a body having a projection on one end, the body having a bore extending therethrough;
- a catheter disposed at least partially within the bore;
- and,
- a balloon member fluidly coupled on one end of the catheter, the balloon member having an elliptical shape.
A cavity spacer device comprising:
- a body having a projection on one end, the body configured to couple with the biopsy system, the body having a bore extending therethrough;
- a first catheter disposed at least partially within the bore;
- a drainage catheter disposed at least partially within the first catheter;
- an inflation catheter disposed at least partially within the first catheter;
- a medicinal catheter disposed at least partially within the first catheter;
- and,
- a balloon member disposed on one end of the catheter and in fluid communication with the inflation catheter.
A method of performing a percutaneous lumpectomy comprising:
- making an incision in a patient;
- excising and removing an area of interest to form a cavity and an insertion tract;
- providing a catheter with a balloon member disposed on one end, the balloon member being in fluid communication with the catheter;
- inserting the catheter into the incision;
- moving the catheter to dispose the balloon member within the cavity;
- inflating the balloon member from a first size to a second size;
- removing the catheter;
- and,
- sealing the balloon.
