Abstract
This invention relates to novel compounds derived from the reaction of diamines or polyamines with alkylene oxides. The invention also relates to novel compounds derived from the reaction of amine terminated polyethers with epoxide functional compounds. The novel compounds of the invention are particularly useful as wetting and foam control agents. The disclosed compounds exhibit exceptional antifoaming and defoaming activity while simultaneously reducing the dynamic surface tension when incorporated at low levels in water-based systems.

A compound of formula (ii)
- wherein R1 is hydrogen or CH3 and n is from 2 to 100;
- R1 and R2 are a CH2CH(OH)—R group wherein R is a linear or branched alkyl moiety containing from about 2 to about 24 carbon atoms, R3 is selected from the group consisting of a linear or branched alkyl moiety containing from about 2 to about 8 carbons, a cycloaliphatic or aromatic moiety containing from about 6 to about 12 carbon atoms, a polyamine moiety of the formula
- where n is from about 2 to about 6, x is from about 1 to about 6, and R4 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and CH2CH(OH)—R group where R is a linear or branched alkyl moiety containing from about 2 to about 24 carbon atoms.

A compound useful in controlling foam formation having the formula (iii)
- wherein R1 is a CH2CH(OH)R group and R2 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a CH2CH(OH)—R group, where R is a linear or branched alkyl group containing from about 2 to about 20 carbon atoms, or where R1 or R2 may be a CH2CH(OH)—O—R group where R is a C2 to C20 linear or branched alkyl ether group, and R′ and R″ are independently selected from C1 to C20 alkyl groups and may be the same or different.
A compound useful in controlling foam formation having the formula (iv)
- where R3 is a polyhydroxy functional alkyl group, with n being from 2 to about 6, where R1 and R2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a CH2CH(OH)—R group, where R is a C2 to C20 linear or branched alkyl group containing from about 2 to about 20 carbon atoms, or where RI is CH2CH(OH)—O—R and R2 may be hydrogen or a CH2CH(OH)—O—R group where R is a C2 to C20 linear or branched alkyl ether group, and R′ and R″ are C1 to C20 alkyl groups and may be the same or different.
