Abstract
A component for a closure is disclosed herein. The component includes a collar extending around a central axis. The component also includes a first expansion housing positioned outside the collar in a radial direction relative to the central axis. The first expansion housing has an interior region in communication with an interior of the collar. The first expansion housing also includes a first adapter mounting wall defining a plurality of first adapter mounting openings in which a plurality of first fiber optic adapters are mounted. The first fiber optic adapters include first connector ports adapted for receiving connectors from outside the first expansion housing.
Claims27
A method for retrofitting a splice closure, the splice closure including a dome mounted to a base, the base defining a plurality of cable pass-through ports, the method comprising:
- removing the dome from the base;
- and
- mounting an expansion component between the dome and the base, the expansion component including a collar secured between the dome and the base, the collar extending around a central axis that extends along a length of the splice closure, the expansion component also including a first expansion housing positioned outside the collar in a radial direction relative to the central axis, the first expansion housing having an interior region in communication with an interior of the collar, the first expansion housing including a first adapter mounting wall defining a plurality of first adapter mounting openings in which a plurality of first fiber optic adapters are mounted, the first fiber optic adapters including first connector ports adapted for receiving connectors from outside the first expansion housing.
A component comprising:
- a collar extending around a central axis;
- and
- a first expansion housing positioned outside the collar in a radial direction relative to the central axis, the first expansion housing having an interior region in communication with an interior of the collar, the first expansion housing including a first adapter mounting wall defining a plurality of first adapter mounting openings in which a plurality of first fiber optic adapters are mounted, the first fiber optic adapters including first connector ports adapted for receiving connectors from outside the first expansion housing.
A splice closure comprising:
- a base defining a plurality of cable through-ports accessible from an end of the splice closure that faces in a first direction;
- a dome;
- and
- an expansion component including a collar that mounts between the base and the dome, the collar defining a central longitudinal axis that extends through the base and the dome, the expansion component also including first expansion housing positioned outside the collar in a radial direction relative to the central axis, the first expansion housing having an interior region in communication with an interior of the collar, the first expansion housing including a first adapter mounting wall defining a plurality of first adapter mounting openings in which a plurality of first fiber optic adapters are mounted, the first fiber optic adapters including first connector ports adapted for receiving connectors from outside the first expansion housing, the first adapter wall having an outer surface that faces generally in the first direction, and the first fiber optic adapters being axially and radially outwardly offset from the cable through-ports of the base.
A component tray comprising:
- a tray body including a base and a perimeter wall arrangement that extends about a perimeter of the tray body;
- first and second flexible latches that project outwardly from perimeter wall arrangement at first side of the tray body, the perimeter wall region defining a recessed region between the flexible latches;
- a component mounting location provided on the base;
- and
- a fiber routing path for routing a fiber from a first entrance/exit location through the component mounting location to a second entrance/exit location;
A method for retrofitting a splice closure, the splice closure including a dome mounted to a base, the base defining a plurality of cable pass-through ports, the method comprising:
- removing the dome from the base;
- and
- mounting an expansion component between the dome and the base, the expansion component including a structure for increasing a service capacity of the enclosure.
