Abstract
A phone test set provides TDR capability in a hand held device, enabling measurements on phone lines including, distance to opens, distance to shorts, and distance to bridge taps.

A hand held test instrument for testing a phone line, comprising:
- an interface for connection with a phone line under test;
- a keypad for providing phone key and operation control functions;
- a processor;
- and
- a TDR test circuit for providing TDR testing in conjunction with said processor.

A method of providing a phone test set for a phone line under test, comprising:
- providing a TDR measurement module;
- operating said TDR measurement module to provide stimulus to the phone line under test and measure response thereto;

- reporting the results of said measure.
