Abstract
Techniques for detecting and addressing image flicker are disclosed. An imaging device that senses a distorted image and subsequently removes the distortion during processing can utilize an analysis module that obtains statistics indicative of image flicker prior to removing the distortion. An imaging device that features a diode for illuminating a field of view can utilize the diode as a photosensor to determine one or more flicker statistics to determine whether ambient lighting conditions are of the type that cause image flicker.
Claims19
A device, comprising:
- an image sensor configured to image light from a field of view
- a diode configured to direct energy outside of the device and positioned to receive ambient light external to the device;
- and
- circuitry connected to the diode to sample a photocurrent provided by the diode when the diode is not directing energy.
A method, comprising:
- receiving, from a light emitting diode in an off state, a photocurrent;
- and
- analyzing the photocurrent to determine if the photocurrent indicates a lighting condition that would induce image flicker.
A computer program product comprising a nontransitory computer-readable medium embodying program instructions that cause a computing device to carry out operations, the instructions comprising:
- program instructions that cause a computing device to access data sampled from a light emitting diode in an off state and representing a photocurrent;
- and
- program instructions that cause the computing device to determine, based on the photocurrent, whether an ambient lighting condition includes an oscillation that may induce flicker in an image.
