Abstract
A method for ionizing, using pulses of ionization radiation, an analyte to be examined by way of ion mobility spectrometry using a pulse sequence is modulated with a known time-variable impression pattern is provided. An ionization device for carrying out the method and an ion mobility spectrometry method and an ion mobility spectrometry device that use the ionization method and/or the ionization device are also provided.

An ionization method, comprising:
- ionizing, using pulses of ionizing radiation, an analyte to be examined by means of ion mobility spectrometry, wherein a pulse sequence is modulated by a previously known time-variable impression pattern.
An ion mobility spectrometry method for determining an analyte using ion mobility spectrometry, the method comprising:
- ionizing, using pulses of ionizing radiation, an analyte to be examined by means of ion mobility spectrometry, wherein a pulse sequence is modulated by a previously known time-variable impression pattern;
- and
- demodulating, using the impression pattern, an ion current measured after passing over a measuring distance.
An ion producing device for an ion mobility spectrometer, comprising:
- a pulsed ionization radiation source;
- and
- an encoding or modulating apparatus configured to encode or modulate a pulse sequence from the ionization radiation source with a previously known time-variable impression pattern.
An ion mobility spectrometer, comprising:
- an ion producing device that includes
- a pulsed ionization radiation source;
- and
- an encoding or modulating apparatus configured to encode or modulate a pulse sequence from the ionization radiation source with a previously known time-variable impression pattern;
- and
- a detection or analysis apparatus that includes a demodulator or decoder apparatus configured to demodulate or decode a measured ion current signal using the impression pattern.
