Abstract
A container comprising a pail, removable cover, and a gasket disposed between the cover and the pail is disclosed. The pail has an angled bead at the proximal end of the pail and a plurality of satellite rings that extend circumferentially around the pail and form a wall junction with the pail. The wall junction has a substantially constant wall thickness. A bail ear is formed to connect at least two of the satellite rings to define an opening between the bail ear and the body. The pail also includes a shock absorbing wall section.
Claims29
A container comprising:
- a body comprising a proximal end, a distal end and a floor sealing the distal end of the body to define an internal cavity;
- an angled bead formed peripherally around the proximal end of the body, wherein the angled bead comprises an upper surface portion configured to contact a gasket, wherein the portion of the upper surface portion that contacts the gasket extends radially outward and toward the distal end of the body;
- and
- a cover rest area at a top portion of the proximal end of the body at a junction with the angled bead.
A container comprising:
- a plastic pail having a body including an opening at a proximal end and a bottom at a distal end, wherein the pail body and the pail bottom are formed as a single element through a molding process;
- one or more plastic satellite rings located generally in the region of the proximal end of the pail body, wherein the satellite rings are angled downward towards the distal end of the body;
- and
- a shock-absorbing wall section located generally in the region of the distal end of the pail body, wherein the shock-absorbing wall section is configured to nest inside another matching pail and to flex in response to an external force, wherein the shock-absorbing wall section includes one or more concave portions of the pail body as viewed from outside the pail, wherein the concave portions extend around the periphery of the pail body and are unitary with the shock absorbing wall.
A container comprising:
- a body having a proximal end and a distal end, including an opening at the proximal end;
- a cover including a cover surface, at least one U-channel with the cover surface and a gripping flange circumferentially around an outer portion of the cover surface, the cover configured to cover the opening of the body;
- an angled bead on the body, including a gasket contacting surface configured to apply a force onto a gasket as pressure builds within the container, wherein the gasket contacting surface extends outward and toward the distal end of the body;
- wherein the gripping flange has an exterior surface and an interior surface, a portion of the interior surface configured to engage the angled bead, wherein the interior surface of the gripping flange and the gasket contacting surface of the angled bead are shaped to define a gasket cavity;
- and
- a cover rest area configured to contact a corresponding underside of the cover, wherein the cover rest area is at a junction of the angled bead and the proximal end of the body.
A container comprising:
- a body formed as a single piece, including:
- a sidewall enclosing an inner cavity except for an upper opening;
- a cover rest area at a top portion of the sidewall;
- and
- an angled bead on the sidewall disposed outwardly from the cover rest area, including:
- a first gasket contacting surface configured to apply a force onto a gasket as pressure builds within the container, wherein the first gasket contacting surface extends outwardly and toward the bottom end of the body;
- and a lower surface opposite the gasket contacting surface;
- and
- a cover formed as a single piece, including:
- a central portion configured to cover the upper opening of the body;
- a downwardly-oriented substantially flat surface configured to contact the cover rest area, wherein the first lip is disposed outwardly from the central portion;
- a gripping flange disposed outwardly from the downwardly-oriented substantially flat surface, including:
- a second gasket contacting surface on an interior of the gripping flange;
- an upwardly-oriented substantially flat surface on the interior surface of the gripping flange configured to engage the lower surface of the angled bead;
- and a downwardly and outwardly sloping surface below the upwardly-oriented substantially flat surface.
A container comprising:
- a body enclosing an inner cavity except for an upper opening;
- upper and lower satellite rings protruding outwardly from and extending around the body, wherein the upper and lower satellite rings each include upper and lower surfaces extending around the body;
- and
- a bail ear between the upper and lower satellite rings, including:
- a first wall configured to allow for attachment of a handle, wherein the first wall contacts the upper and lower satellite rings, and wherein the first wall is separated from the body by a first distance;
- a second wall extending inwardly from the first wall towards the body, wherein the second wall contacts the first wall and the upper and lower satellite rings, and wherein the second wall is separated from the body by a second distance less than the first distance.
A container, comprising:
- a body;
- a satellite ring protruding outwardly from the body and extending around a periphery of the body, wherein the satellite ring and the body are formed as a single piece during an injection molding process;
- a wall junction of the body and the satellite ring, wherein the body is molded to form an indent on an inner surface of the body at the wall junction, whereby providing the indent on the inner surface of the body at the wall junction reduces an amount of plastic used to form the wall junction during the injection molding process.
An injection molding process, comprising:
- molding a body of a container to form an indent on an inner surface of the body at a wall junction of the body and a satellite ring that protrudes outwardly from the body and extends around a periphery of the body;
- and
- forming the satellite ring and the body as a single piece during an injection molding process, whereby the indent provided on the inner surface of the body at the wall junction reduces an amount of plastic used to form the wall junction during the injection molding process.
