Abstract
A method is described for installing a geothermal heat loop in the ground so that the heat loop extends downwardly and outwardly into the ground from a pit dug in the ground. The method also includes the utilization of means for extending the heat loop through a drilled bore hole.
Claims5
The method of placing a geothermal heat loop into the ground, comprising the steps of:
- digging a pit in the ground;
- providing a bore hole drilling device including a plurality of drill pipes which may be selectively removably secured together in an end-to-end relationship to form a drill pipe string with a drill bit selectively removably secured to the distal end of drill pipe string;
- drilling a first elongated bore hole which extends from said pit downwardly and outwardly therefrom at an angle with respect to horizontal;
- removing the drill pipe string and drill bit from the first bore hole;
- removing the drill bit from the drill pipe string;
- providing a head member assembly having a hook-like member thereon;
- attaching said head member assembly to the distal end of the drill pipe string;
- providing a geothermal heat loop including a pair of flexible pipes having distal and proximal ends;
- providing a dual coil fitting;
- fluidly connecting said dual coil fitting to said distal ends of said pair of flexible pipes;
- releasably connecting said dual coil fitting to said hook-like member on said head member assembly;
- moving said drill pipe string and said head member assembly through said first bore hole to a predetermined location which causes said dual coil fitting and said pair of flexible pipes to be pulled through said first bore holes to the predetermined location;
- moving said head member assembly and said drill pipe string towards said pit which causes said dual coil fitting and said distal ends of said pair of flexible pipes to disconnect from said hook-like member on said head member assembly thereby leaving said dual coil fitting and said pair of flexible pipes at said predetermined location.

In combination:
- a drill pipe string having a distal end;
- a head member assembly selectively secured to said distal end of said drill pipe string;
- a hook-like member secured to said head member assembly;
- a geothermal heat loop including a pair of pipes having distal ends fluidly connected to a dual coil fitting;
- an attachment means secured to said dual coil fitting;
- said attachment means including a flexible chain which is releasably securable to said hook-like member whereby the insertion of the drill pipe string and head member assembly into a drilled bore hole will cause said dual coil fitting and the pair of pipes secured thereto to be pulled through the bore hole to a predetermined location and whereby the withdrawal of said drill pipe string and said head member assembly from the bore hole will cause said attachment means to disconnect from said dual coil fitting so that said dual coil fitting and the pipes secured thereto will remain at said predetermined location.
