Abstract
A fuel flow system for a gas turbine includes a first pump, a main fuel flow path and a second pump. The first pump is connected to an actuator and a metering valve. The main fuel flow path is formed between the first pump and the metering valve. The second pump is connected to the main fuel flow path and supplements the fuel flow from the first pump under certain conditions. The second pump and first pump are in parallel.
Claims20
A fuel flow system for a gas turbine engine, the system comprising:
- a first pump connected to an actuator;
- a main fuel flow path formed between the first pump and the actuator;
- and
- a second pump in parallel with the first pump and connected to the main fuel flow path for supplementing fuel flow from the first pump under certain conditions.
A method for controlling a fuel flow system for a gas turbine engine, the method comprising the steps:
- dividing fuel flow from a source between a first pump and a second pump;
- directing a first portion of the fuel flow from the first pump to an actuator;
- directing a second portion of fuel flow from the first pump through a main fuel flow path to a metering valve;
- directing a third portion of the fuel flow from the first pump through a bypass loop to inlets of the first and second pumps;
- directing a first portion of the fuel flow from the second pump to the actuator;
- and
- directing a second portion of the fuel flow from the second pump through the bypass loop to the inlets of the first and second pumps.
A fuel flow system for a gas turbine engine, the system comprising:
- a dual window valve;
- a first pump in communication with a fuel source and a first window defined by a spool slidably received in the dual window valve;
- a second pump in communication with a fuel source and a second window defined by the spool slidably received in the dual window valve;
- an actuator in communication with the first pump;
- and
- a metering valve downstream of the first and second pumps, the metering valve in communication with the first pump, and in communication with the second pump when the second window is restricted.
