Systems and Methods for Processing Inoperative Document Links

A client computer, comprising:

• memory;
• one or more processors;
• a display device;
• one or more programs stored in the memory and configured for execution by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:
• while displaying a browser application having a displayed address field, receiving a user-identified document link;
• submitting the user-identified document link to a server remotely located from the client computer;
• and
• displaying, in response to a determination that the user-identified document link is inoperative, a plurality of distinct user-editable query terms in a search box distinct from the displayed address field of the browser application, wherein at least one of the query terms is different from the user-identified document link and is selected from a group comprising text extracted from the user-identified document link and a term based on text extracted from the user-identified document link.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs for execution by one or more processors of a client computer, the one or more programs including instructions for:

• while displaying a browser application having a displayed address field, receiving a user-identified document link;
• submitting the user-identified document link to a server remotely located from the client computer;
• and
• displaying, in response to a determination that the user-identified document link is inoperative, a plurality of distinct user-editable query terms in a search box distinct from the displayed address field of the browser application, wherein at least one of the query terms is different from the user-identified document link and is selected from a group comprising text extracted from the user-identified document link and a term based on text extracted from the user-identified document link.
