A method for selecting an item to recommend to a user from a plurality of items, the method comprising:

• calculating a first set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items using a first scoring algorithm having a first scale;
• calculating a second set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items using a second scoring algorithm having a second scale;
• adjusting the second set of scores, using at least one processor, to match the second scale to the first scale;
• calculating a third set of scores for the plurality of items by combining the first set of scores and the adjusted second set of scores;
• and
• selecting an item to recommend to the user from the plurality of items based on the third set of scores.

At least one computer-readable storage medium encoded with computer-executable instructions that, when executed, perform a method for selecting an item to recommend to a user from a plurality of items, the method comprising:

• calculating a first set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items using a first scoring algorithm having a first scale;
• calculating a second set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items using a second scoring algorithm having a second scale;
• adjusting the second set of scores to match the second scale to the first scale;
• calculating a third set of scores for the plurality of items by combining the first set of scores and the adjusted second set of scores;
• and
• selecting an item to recommend to the user from the plurality of items based on the third set of scores.

Apparatus for selecting an item to recommend to a user from a plurality of items, the apparatus comprising:

• means for calculating a first set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items using a first scoring algorithm having a first scale;
• means for calculating a second set of scores indicating degrees of association between items of the plurality of items using a second scoring algorithm having a second scale;
• means for adjusting the second set of scores to match the second scale to the first scale;
• means for calculating a third set of scores for the plurality of items by combining the first set of scores and the adjusted second set of scores;
• and
• means for selecting an item to recommend to the user from the plurality of items based on the third set of scores.
