The invention relates to a medical implantable lead of the kind being adapted to be implanted into a human or animal body for monitoring and/or controlling of an organ inside the body. The lead comprises in a distal end a tubular header (3) inside which a shaft (7) is rotatable as well as extendable and retractable arranged and carries in a distal end a combined fixation means and electrode member in form of a helix (4), which is provided with a first contact surface being electrically connectible to a connector at the proximal end of the lead by means of an electric conductor (8), and which by means of the shaft is rotatable in relation to the lead and extendable out from the distal end to be able to fixate the distal end of the lead to the organ by being screwed into the tissue. The shaft also carries a second contact surface (13) being positioned on or adjacent a proximal portion of the helix and being connectible to a connector at the proximal end of the lead by means of an electric conductor (8). The lead comprises a conduction controlling means (14), which at least during an initial stage after implantation is capable of render the first contact surface electrically inactive and which is capable of render the first contact surface electrically active after the initial stage. By means of the inventive lead it is possible to detect whether the helix is sufficient screwed into the tissue (12) or not.

A medical implantable lead adapted to be implanted into a human or animal body for monitoring and/or controlling an organ inside the body, comprising at a distal end thereof a tubular header inside which a shaft is rotatable as well as extendably and retractably arranged and carries at a distal end a combined fixation means and electrode member in the form of a helix, which is provided with a first contact surface being electrically connectible to a connector at the proximal end of the lead by means of an electric conductor, and which by means of the shaft is rotatable in relation to the lead and extendable out from the distal end for fixation of the lead to the organ, wherein the shaft is further provided with a second contact surface positioned on or adjacent a proximal portion of the helix which is located beyond the distal end of the shaft and connectible to a connector at the proximal end of the lead by means of an electric conductor;
The medical implantable lead according to claim 1, wherein the conduction controlling means comprises an electrically insulating layer of a biologically dissolvable material coated onto the first contact surface.
The medical implantable lead according to claim 2, wherein the second contact surface is arranged on the helix, at a proximal portion of the helix located beyond a distal end of the shaft, while the first contact surface is arranged at a distal portion of the helix, and wherein the first contact surface is coated with an electrically insulating layer of a biologically dissolvable material during the initial stage of implanting the lead while the second contact surface is conductive.
The medical implantable lead according to claim 1, wherein the second contact surface is separate from the helix.
The medical implantable lead according to claim 1, wherein the helix and the second contact surface are electrically connected to separate connectors at the proximal end via separate conductors.
The medical implantable lead according to claim 1, wherein the second contact surface is connectable to the proximal end by means of a temporary conductor.
The medical implantable lead according to claim 1, wherein the lead is provided with a continuous through bore from the proximal to the distal end and through the shaft, such that a temporary conductor in form of a stylet is insertable through the bore for contact with or penetration into the tissue, and wherein the stylet will function as a second contact surface, a conductor, as well as a connector.
