A device for cutting paper webs comprises a substantially continuously operated region of a paper supply, a discontinuously operated region of transverse severing for transversely separating the paper web, and a buffer region (15) for coupling the continuously and discontinuously operated regions. At least one box-like receptacle (17) open at the top is provided in the buffer region, into which the paper web(s) (3, 3′) are guided so as to be looped in a freely suspended manner. The buffer region is arranged after a longitudinal cutting device (9) for producing at least two longitudinal webs (3, 3′), whereby at least two webs extending separately and adjacently to one another are guided in the receptacle or at least two receptacles are arranged adjacently to one another or adjacently to one another at an offset, wherein the paper webs are guided into said receptacles.

A device for cutting paper webs, the device comprising a substantially continuously operated region of a paper supply, a discontinuously operated region of transverse severing of a paper web, and a buffer region for coupling the continuously and discontinuously operated regions, the buffer region including at least one upwardly open, box-like receptacle into which a paper web or paper webs is or are guided in a freely hanging looped manner, wherein the buffer region is arranged downstream of a longitudinal cutting device for producing at least two longitudinal webs, whereby at least two separate webs running adjacent to one another are guided in the at least one receptacle, and wherein following the buffer region, a controlled braking region is provided so as to permit braking of the movement of paper webs coupled in terms of control to the discontinuous operation of the region of transverse severing.
A method for cutting paper webs, wherein a paper web is supplied and advanced at least substantially continuously before subsequently being introduced discontinuously into a transverse severing device, continuously advanced paper webs are, downstream of a longitudinal severing point, looped through at least one upwardly open, box-like receptacle such that the subsequent discontinuous processing in the transverse severing device is compensated for by enlargement or reduction in size of a loop or loops, and wherein the webs are driven into the at least one receptacle by means of negative pressure in the at least one receptacle from below and/or by blowers from above, and wherein a braking action is applied to the paper webs emerging from the at least one receptacle, control of the braking being coupled to the discontinuous processing in the transverse severing device.
