Abstract
A power line spreading device used to separate the two conductor lines of a twisted pair conductor. The spreading device includes a substantially conical body and a handle. The body further includes a groove in an outer surface orientated in a conic spiral along a length of the body wherein the diameter of the conical body gradually increases from a first end to a second end. The spreading device is engaged with the two conductor lines proximate the first end, rotated about an axis of rotation whereby the groove acts to draw the two conductor lines from a first end toward a second end of the body. The gradual increase in diameter of the spreading device causes and maintains a desired spread distance between the two conductor lines of a twisted pair connector.
Claims26
A power line spreading device comprising:
- a substantially conical body having an outside face, a first end and a second end, said body having at least one conic spiral groove defined in said outside face from proximate said first end to proximate said second end;
- and
- wherein said second end is configured to cooperatively engage a turning device for turning said body.
A power line spreading device comprising:
- a substantially conical body having an outside face, a first end and a second end, said body having at least one conic spiral groove defined in said outside face from proximate said first end to proximate said second end;
- and
- a handle operably coupled to said second end of said body.
A method for separating conductor lines in a twisted pair conductor, said method comprising:
- inserting a power line spreading device between two twisted power lines, said power line spreading device comprising a substantially conical body having an outside face, a first end, a second end, and a longitudinal axis passing through said first end and said second end, said body having at least one conic spiral groove defined in said outside face from proximate said first end to proximate said second end;
- engaging the power lines with at least a portion of said at least one conic spiral groove;
- and
- applying a torsional force to said handle thereby causing rotation of said body about said longitudinal axis.
A power line spreading device comprising:
- a substantially conical body of a non-conductive material having an outside face, a first end and a second end, said body having at least one conic spiral groove defined in said outside face from proximate said first end to proximate said second end;
- a handle of a non-conductive material, said handle being integral with said second end of said body;
- wherein said first end of said body is configured to be wedged between two power lines;
- and
- wherein said substantially conical body has a vertex angle, said vertex angle being in a range from about five degrees to about fifteen degrees.
