Abstract
The improved DC-DC converter apparatus includes a primary side circuit and a secondary side circuit that is galvanically isolated from the primary. The primary side induces a voltage in the secondary side that provides an output voltage for driving POLs. A flux-control device measures the transformer primary side flux to control the primary side duty cycle, thereby loosely regulating the output voltage of the secondary side circuit,
Claims10
A isolated dc-dc converter device, the device comprising:
- a primary side circuit and a secondary side circuit, the primary side circuit accepting an input voltage, the secondary side circuit galvanically isolated from the primary side circuit by a transformer, the secondary side circuit for generating an output voltage determined by the duty cycle of the primary side circuit;
- and
- a flux-control device for varying the duty cycle of the primary side circuit based upon the volt-second of the transformer primary side windings in order to loosely regulate the output voltage.
A method, the method steps comprising:
- in a dc-dc converter device comprising a primary side circuit galvanically isolated from a secondary side circuit, the galvanic isolation provided by a transformer comprising at least one primary winding and at least one secondary winding,
- measuring the volt-second of the primary side winding of the transformer;
- and
- loosely regulating a voltage output of the secondary side circuit by altering the duty cycle of the primary side circuit based on the volt-second measurement.
