Abstract
A method is provided for forming a high-capacity, high-rate lithium ion battery cathode material. The method includes providing a synthesized material of electrochemically active plate-shaped nanoparticles and adding a plurality of appropriately sized diluent particles to the plate-shaped nanoparticles to form a suspension. Any liquid is removed from the solution to form a composite material. The method also includes processing the composite material to form a high-capacity, high-rate lithium ion battery cathode material.
Claims20
A method of forming a high-capacity, high-rate lithium ion battery cathode material, comprising:
- providing a plurality of synthesized electrochemically active plate-shaped nanoparticles;
- adding a plurality of appropriately sized diluent particles to the plate-shaped nanoparticles to form a mixed suspension;
- removing any liquid from the solution to form a composite material;
- and
- processing the composite material to form a high-capacity, high-rate lithium ion battery cathode material.
A method of fabricating lithium ion cathode material for use in a battery application, comprising:
- providing a plurality of synthesized lithium iron phosphate plate-shaped nanoparticles;
- separating the plurality of synthesized nanoparticles from one another;
- suspending the synthesized nanoparticles;
- frustrating the arrangement of the synthesized nanoparticles to form a suspension;
- removing liquid from the suspension to form a composite material;
- processing the composite material into lithium ion cathode material.
