Graphics display system with video scaler

A method for processing video data, the method comprising:

• performing by one or more processors and/or circuits in a video processing device, said one or more processors and/or circuits comprising a video scaler, a memory, and a scaler engine:
• receiving a video image by the video processing device;
• determining whether the video scaler requires less memory bandwidth to scale the video image before writing the video image to the memory or after reading the video image from the memory;
• and
• scaling the video image based on the determination.

A system for processing video data, the system comprising:

• one or more processors and/or circuits for use in a video processing device, said one or more processors and/or circuits comprise a video scaler, a memory, and a scaler engine, wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to:
• receive a video image;
• determine whether the video scaler requires less memory bandwidth to scale the video image before writing the video image to the memory or after reading the video image from the memory;
• and
• scale the video image based on the determination.
