A method of ameliorating or inhibiting angiogenesis associated with a disease condition in a mammal, said method comprising administering to the mammal an effective amount of an extract of Platycodin radix containing platycodin D as an active ingredient;
- wherein the disease condition is selected from the group consisting of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, sickle cell anemia, sarcoidosis, syphilis, pseudoxanthoma elasticum, Crohn's disease, Paget's disease, vein occlusion, artery occlusion, carotid obstructive disease, chronic uveitis/vitritis, mycobacterial infections, Lyme disease, systemic lupus erythematosis, psoriasis, Kaposi's sarcoma, rheumatoid arthritis, uveitis, retinopathy of prematurity, Eales disease, Bechets disease, infections causing retinitis or choroiditis, presumed ocular histoplasmosis, Bests disease, myopia, optic pits, Stargarts disease, pars planitis, chronic retinal detachment, hyperviscosity syndrome, toxoplasmosis, trauma, and post-laser surgery complications.
