Abstract
A method wherein subjects having or at risk for having hyperopia, presbyopia or astigmatism are administered a composition having an effective amount of ocular antioxidants, including specifically macular pigments, to prevent, treat, or delay the onset of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

A method of treating age-related macular degeneration in a subject having one of more of the conditions consisting of hyperopia, presbyopia and astigmatism, comprising the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of one or more ocular antioxidants.
A method of reducing blue and ultraviolet light damage to the retina of a subject having a condition that causes such blue or ultraviolet light to fall disproportionally on or in front of the retina, comprising the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of one or more ocular antioxidants.
A method of early diagnosis and treatment of a subject at risk for developing age-related macular degeneration, comprising the steps of identifying that the subject suffers from a condition selected from the list consisting of hyperopia, presbyopia and astigmatism and administering to the subject therapeutically efficacious amounts of one or more ocular antioxidants.
