Abstract
A radiation therapy treatment method comprises imaging a subject and simulating four-dimensional aspects of radiotherapy. A treatment plan based on the simulation is generated to permit real-time, three-dimensional dose reconstruction at the time of treatment. The simulation and treatment plan are used during treatment fractions to achieve real-time image guidance.
Claims24
A radiation therapy treatment method comprising:
- imaging a subject;
- processing the images to determine a four-dimensional simulation of movement of a target volume and a surrounding critical volume likely to occur during radiotherapy treatment;
- generating a treatment plan using at least the simulation;
- and
- during irradiation, further imaging the subject and also using the simulation and treatment plan for tracking the actual movement of the target and critical volumes and controlling the irradiation.
2 more elements
A radiation therapy treatment method, comprising:
- imaging a subject;
- processing the images to determine a four-dimensional simulation of movement of a target volume and a surrounding critical volume likely to occur during radiotherapy treatment, including a range of possible deviations of movement of the target volume and the critical volume from a mean trajectory;
- generating a treatment plan using at least the simulation;
- generating a bank of radiation dose distributions covering the range of possible deviations;
- and
- during irradiation, further imaging the subject and reconstructing radiation dose delivered based at least on actual movement of the target and critical volumes, the treatment plan and the bank of radiation dose distributions.
