Abstract
An imaging or sensor system comprises a transmitter assembly, a receiver assembly and a control unit. The transmitter assembly defines an outgoing optical beam transmission path with respect to a target surface and the receiver assembly defines a return optical signal transmission path from the target surface. Each of the paths includes transmission through or reflection from at least one microdisplay device comprising a plurality of controllable elements for selective placement in a transmit mode for transmission of light along the transmission paths. A control unit selectively places the microdisplay device elements in the transmission mode.
Claims8
An imaging or sensor system comprising a
- transmitter assembly for defining an outgoing optical beam transmission path with respect to a target surface and a receiver assembly for defining a return optical signal transmission path from the target surface, wherein each of the two optical transmission paths includes transmission through or reflection from at least one microdisplay device comprising a plurality of controllable elements for selective placement in a mode for transmission of light along the transmission paths;
- and
- a control unit for selectively placing microdisplay device elements in the transmission mode.
A method for measurement of the scattering characteristics of a medium, comprising:
- transmitting collimated light through a scattering medium so that the light experiences spatial or temporal dispersion while traveling through the medium;
- receiving the light on a light sensitive detector;
- after the light travels through the medium, focusing both direct and scattered components of the light on a plane which provides a Fourier transform plane on which angular information incident on the lens is transformed to spatial frequency;
- positioning a microdisplay device along the focal plane to selectively reflect light incident thereon and controlling the direction of reflection of the incident light;
- and
- directing a portion of the reflected light to a light sensitive detector for measurement while not directing other portions of the reflected light for receipt by the detector.
