Abstract
A variety of forms of machine-readable symbols are disclosed, as well as methods and systems of constructing machine-readable symbols, methods and systems of acquiring machine-readable symbols, and methods and systems of decoding machine-readable symbols.
Claims65
A method of acquiring an image of a machine-readable symbol, the method comprising:
- illuminating the machine-readable symbol with a plurality of illumination sources disposed relative to the machine-readable symbol to define a plurality of distinct illumination geometries;
- for each illumination geometry, obtaining a respective raw image of the machine-readable symbol, wherein at least one of the respective raw images includes a dark region;
- and
- combining information from the respective raw images to generate a single image of the machine-readable symbol.
A system for acquiring an image of a machine-readable symbol, the system comprising:
- a plurality of illumination sources disposed relative to the machine-readable symbol to define a plurality of distinct illumination geometries;
- an imager disposed to generate a respective raw image of the machine readable symbol for each illumination geometry, wherein at least one of the respective raw images includes a dark region;
- and
- a computational unit interfaced with the imager, the computational unit including instructions to combine information from the respective raw images to generate a single image of the machine-readable symbol.
A method of acquiring an image of a machine-readable symbol, the method comprising:
- illuminating the machine-readable symbol with a plurality of illumination sources having different illumination spectra;
- collecting an image of the illuminated machine-readable symbol;
- and
- separating chromatic components of the collected image.
A system for acquiring an image of a machine-readable symbol, the system comprising:
- a plurality of illumination sources having different illumination spectra and disposed to illuminate the machine-readable symbol;
- an imager disposed to collect an image of the illuminated machine-readable symbol;
- and
- a computational unit interfaced with the imager, the computational unit having instructions to separate chromatic components of the collected image.
A method of acquiring an image of a machine-readable symbol, the method comprising:
- receiving a plurality of raw images of the machine-readable symbol taken with a handheld device;
- registering the plurality of raw images;
- and
- combining information from the registered images to generate a single image of the machine-readable symbol.
A handheld device for acquiring an image of a machine-readable symbol, the handheld device comprising:
- an imager;
- and
- a processor, the processor having:
- instructions to receive a plurality of raw images of the machine-readable symbol taken with the imager;
- instructions to register the plurality of raw images;
- and
- instructions to combine information from the registered images to generate a single image of the machine-readable symbol.
