Sharpening device for power saw chains

A sharpening device for power saw chains having a chain clamping unit and an advance element for advancing the saw chain, in which the sharpening device has a base plate on which the chain clamping unit and the advance element are disposed for each case, wherein the base plate is attached to a basic body that has a grinding wheel and a drive, wherein the basic body has a control that has a memory with different control programs, and the control has a switch that has different switching states when different base plates are introduced on the basic body, or a plug that joins the base plate with the basic body, and when the plug is plugged into the basic body, information on the individual configuration of the base plate is communicated to the control.

The sharpening device according to claim 1, wherein the base plate is pivotable and can be fixed on the basic body.

A method for sharpening a power saw chain a chain clamping unit and an advance element for advancing the saw chain, wherein the sharpening device has several changeable base plates, on which are disposed a chain clamping unit and an advance element for each case, for sharpening different power saw chains by means of the following steps:

• adapting chain clamping unit and advance element precisely to one another in their optimal alignment, and
• adapting them differently for each case, individually for a particular power saw chain, onto the changeable base plates.
