Abstract
The present invention provides antibodies that specifically bind to P2X7 receptors and distinguish between function and non-functional P2X7 receptors, pharmaceutical compositions and kits containing the antibodies, and methods of using the antibodies for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease conditions.
Claims6
1-4. (canceled)
An isolated P2X7 receptor that is deficient in one or more ATP binding sites so that the receptor is unable to form an apoptotic pore when bound by ATP.
The receptor according to claim 1 wherein the receptor forms an ion channel in the absence of ATP.
An isolated P2X7 receptor including an amino acid sequence that includes the amino acid sequence of GHNYTTRNILPGLNIT (residues 200-215 of SEQ ID NO:
- 1), wherein the receptor contains at least one monomer that is deficient in binding ATP.
An isolated P2X7 receptor having an amino acid sequence that includes the amino acid sequence of GHNYTTRNILPGLNIT (residues 200-215 of SEQ ID NO:
- 1), wherein the receptor is able to function as an ion channel when expressed on the surface of a cell and when ATP is bound to the receptor, the receptor is unable to form an apoptotic pore.
An isolated P2X7 receptor having an amino acid sequence that includes the amino acid sequence of GHNYTTRNILPGLNIT (residues 200-215 of SEQ ID NO:
- 1), wherein the receptor has an impaired response to ATP such that it is unable to form anapoptotic pore.
