A method for preparing a functionalized polymer, the method comprising the steps of:
- (i) polymerizing monomer with a coordination catalyst to form a reactive polymer;
- and
- (ii) reacting the reactive polymer with a nitrile compound containing a protected amino group.
A functionalized polymer defined by the formula:
- where π is a cis-1,4-polydiene chain having a cis-1,4-linkage content that is greater than 60%, R1 is a divalent organic group, and R2 and R3 are each independently a mono-valent organic group or a hydrolyzable group, or R2 and R3 join to form a divalent organic group.
A functionalized polymer defined by the formula:
- where π is a cis-1,4-polydiene chain having a cis-1,4-linkage content that is greater than 60%, R1 is a divalent organic group, and R2 and R3 are each independently a mono-valent organic or a hydrogen atom, or R2 and R3 join to form a divalent organic group.
A functionalized polymer prepared by the steps of:
- (i) polymerizing conjugated diene monomer with a coordination catalyst to form a reactive cis-1,4-polydiene having a cis-1,4-linkage content that is greater than 60%;
- and
- (ii) reacting the reactive cis-1,4-polydiene with a nitrile compound containing a protected amino group.
