Abstract
The present invention relates to a method of producing an aqueous dispersion of silanized colloidal silica particles comprising mixing in an aqueous medium a) at least one silane compound containing an epoxy-functionality, b) at least one silane compound having no epoxy-functionality capable of modifying colloidal silica particles; and c) colloidal silica particles in any order to form an aqueous dispersion of silanized colloidal silica particles containing silane compounds originating from a) and b). It also relates to a dispersion obtainable by said method and to the use thereof in coating applications.

A method of producing an aqueous dispersion of silanized colloidal silica particles comprising mixing in an aqueous medium a) at least one silane compound containing an epoxy-functionality, b) at least one silane compound having no epoxy-functionality capable of modifying colloidal silica particles, and c) colloidal silica particles in any order to form an aqueous dispersion of silanized colloidal silica particles containing silane compounds originating from a) and b), wherein the weight ratio of a) and b) to silica is from about 0.01 to about 1.5.
An aqueous dispersion comprising silanized colloidal silica particles, wherein the silanized colloidal silica particles comprise silane groups originating from a) at least one silane compound containing an epoxy-functionality and b) at least one silane compound having no epoxy-functionality, wherein the weight ratio of both a) and b) to silica ranges from about 0.01 to about 1.5.
