Abstract
In one embodiment, a scheme is provided for network discovery and selection by a user equipment (UE) device that is operable in wide area cellular network (WACN) bands as well as in wireless access network bands. In particular, the UE device is operable to select a WACN that is accessible via a wireless generic access network (GAN) in addition to being accessible via the cellular network band.
Claims28
A network selection method, comprising:
- generating a first list of available wide area cellular networks discovered through scanning by a user equipment (UE) device in a first band (604);
- generating a second list of available wide area cellular networks discovered through scanning by said UE device in a second band (608);
- correlating said first and second lists of available wide area cellular networks for identifying a set of wide area cellular networks common to both lists (610);
- and
- selecting a particular wide area cellular network from said set of wide area cellular networks common to said first and second lists (612).
2 more elements
A user equipment (UE) device, comprising:
- a communication subsystem including a transceiver module for communicating in a first band and a transceiver module for communicating in a second band;
- a logic module operable to generate a first list of available wide area cellular networks discovered through scanning in said first band;
- a logic module operable to generate a second list of available wide area cellular networks discovered through scanning in said band;
- a logic module operable to correlate said first and second lists of available wide area cellular networks for identifying a set of wide area cellular networks common to both lists;
- and
- a logic module operable to select a particular wide area cellular network from said set of wide area cellular networks common to said first and second lists.
