Abstract
A novel handheld media and communication device with a detachable projector unit is disclosed. A media library for media assets is included in a file storage system of the projector unit while metadata of the assets is stored in a file storage system of the media and communication device. The device is used as a remote control device to control the operation of delivering media assets through the projector unit after the unit is detached from the device. The projector unit may also be used to connect to a media delivery unit such as a desktop projector, a TV terminal or an audio system for delivering media assets.
Claims20
A handheld device comprising:
- (a) a media and communication device, said device further comprising a processor, a file storage system and a battery;
- (b) a detachable projector unit, said unit further comprising a micro projector, an auxiliary processor, an auxiliary file storage system and a battery;
- and
- (c) a means of delivering media assets by using of said projector unit controlled by said media and communication device as a remote control device after said projector unit is detached from said media and communication device,
- wherein said handheld device further comprising a wired connector for connecting said media and communication device and said projector unit,
- wherein said auxiliary file storage system further comprising a media library including a plurality of media assets and said file storage system further comprising a data file including metadata of said media assets in said media library,
- wherein the metadata may be presented to a user of the handheld device through a user interface of said media and communication device for the user to select at least one media asset in the media library,
- wherein said user selected metadata can be transferred from said media and communication device to said projector unit through a wireless communication link to initiate an operation of delivering the selected media asset by using of said projector unit
A method of delivering a video asset to a user using a handheld device comprising a media and communication device and a detachable projector unit, the method comprising:
- (a) connecting said media and communication device to said projector unit through a wired connector;
- (b) storing a plurality of video assets in a media library in an auxiliary file storage system of said projector unit and storing associated metadata in a file storage system of said media and communication device;
- (c) detaching said projector unit and said media and communication device;
- (d) establishing a wireless communication link between said media and communication device and said projector unit;
- (e) controlling an operation of delivering the video asset using said projector unit by using said media and communication device as a remote control device.
A method of delivering a media asset to a user using a media delivery system comprising a handheld device comprising a media and communication device and a detachable projector unit and a media delivery unit, the method comprising:
- (a) connecting said media and communication device to said projector unit through a wired connector;
- (b) storing a plurality of media assets in a media library in an auxiliary file storage system of said projector unit and storing associated metadata in a file storage system of said media and communication device;
- (c) detaching said projector unit and said media and communication device;
- (d) establishing a wireless communication link between said media and communication device and said projector unit;
- (e) receiving the user's selection of a media asset through a user interface of said media and communication device;
- (f) transmitting the metadata of the selected media asset to said projector unit through said wireless communication link;
- (g) delivering the media asset using said media and communication device as a remote control device according to one of the following methods:
- a. delivering the media asset represented by the received metadata by using said projector unit;
- and
- b. connecting said projector unit to said media delivery unit through a wired connector and delivering the media asset represented by the received metadata through said media delivery unit, wherein said projector unit transfers the selected media asset to said media delivery unit through said wired connector.
