Abstract
Method and apparatus for enabling a wireless terminal to communicate the dual-mode capabilities and reporting the interworking capabilities of the two networks with which the wireless terminal have the added capability of obtaining services from either one of the interworking networks.

A method for use in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:
- the WTRU transmitting an attach request message via a cellular radio access network (RAN) to a Serving General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) Support Node (SGSN) in a core network,
- wherein the attach request message includes a mobile station (MS) radio access capability information element (IE), and
- wherein the MS radio access capability IE includes a field that indicates whether the WTRU is capable of receiving services from the core network via a non-cellular wireless access network;
- and
- the WTRU receiving services from the core network.

- a transmitter configured to transmit an attach request message via a cellular radio access network (RAN) to a Serving General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) Support Node (SGSN) in a core network,

- wherein the MS radio access capability IE includes a field that indicates whether the WTRU is capable of receiving services from the core network via a non-cellular wireless access network;

- wherein the attach request message includes a mobile station (MS) radio access capability information element (IE), and
- wherein the MS radio access capability IE includes a field that indicates whether the WTRU is capable of receiving services from the core network via a non-cellular wireless access network;

- the WTRU receiving an attach accept message from the SGSN.
