Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention relate to network nodes and methods that allow for improved QoS control in a telecommunications network by providing combined reservation of transport resources and processing resources for a traffic flow. The amount of transport resources and the amount of processing resources required in connection with a traffic flow can be signaled in a signaling message from a sender node to a receiver node to enable reservation of appropriate amounts of processing resources as well as transport resources.
Claims29
A method in a first node (11) of a telecommunications network (10) for dynamic reservation of resources (131) for at least one traffic flow, said method comprising
- creating (61) at least one signaling message (17) including resource reservation information related to the at least one traffic flow (16), and
- sending (62) the at least one signaling message to at least one second node (12, 13, 14),
- characterized by said resource reservation information including an indication (23) of the amount of transport resources (131) required for transportation of the at least one traffic flow within the telecommunications network and an indication (24) of the amount of processing resources (123) required for processing traffic payload of the at least one traffic flow to enable resource reservation of traffic resources and processing resources for the at least one traffic flow.
A method in a node (12, 14) of a telecommunications network (10) for dynamic reservation of resources (131) for at least one traffic flow (16), said method comprising
- receiving (71) at least one signaling message (17) including a resource reservation request related to the at least one traffic flow, and
- reserving (75) resources in accordance with the received request if such resources are available,
- characterized by
- said resource reservation request including an indication (23) of the amount of transport resources (131) required for transportation of the at least one traffic flow within the telecommunications network and an indication (24) of the amount of processing resources (123) required for processing traffic payload of the at least one traffic flow;
- and by
- said method further comprising interpreting (72) the indication of the amount of required processing resources and reserving (75) the required processing resources if such resources are available.
A first network node (11) for use in a telecommunications network (10) and adapted for dynamic reservation of resources (131) for at least one traffic flow (16), said first network node comprising
- a processing unit (111) adapted to create at least one signaling message (17) including resource reservation information related to the at least one traffic flow, and
- an output unit (112) adapted to send the at least one signaling message to at least one second network node (12, 13, 14),
- characterized in that said resource reservation information includes an indication (23) of the amount of transport resources (131) required for transportation of the at least one traffic flow within the telecommunications network and an indication (24) of the amount of processing resources (123) required for processing traffic payload of the at least one traffic flow to enable resource reservation of traffic resources and processing resources for the at least one traffic flow.
A network node (12, 14) for use in a telecommunications network (10) and adapted for dynamic reservation of resources for at least one traffic flow (16), said network node comprising
- an input unit (121) adapted to receive at least one signaling message (17) including a resource reservation request related to the at least one traffic flow, and
- a reservation unit (122) adapted to reserve resources in accordance with the received request if such resources are available,
- characterized in that the network node further comprises
- reservable processing resources (123) adapted to process traffic payload of the at least one traffic flow;
- and
- in that said reservation unit (122) is adapted to
- interpret said resource reservation request, wherein the resource reservation request includes an indication (23) of the amount of transport resources (131) required for transportation of the at least one traffic flow within the telecommunications network and an indication (24) of the amount of processing resources (123) required for processing traffic payload of the at least one traffic flow, and to
- reserve the required processing resources if such resources are available.
