A conversion material, comprising a matrix glass that, as bulk material for a thickness d of about 1 mm has a sure transmission τi of greater than 80% in the wavelength region from 350 to 800 nm and in the region in which the primary light source emits light, and is formed as a sintered compact from a powder of the matrix glass with a grain size distribution d10>=0.7 μm, d50>=3 μm, and d90<=150 μm,
- wherein the conversion material is produced by a method comprising the steps of:
- providing a matrix glass,
- grinding said matrix glass to powders with a grain size distribution of grain sizes d10>=0.7 μm, d50>=3 μm, and d90<=150 μm,
- mixing said ground matrix glass with a luminophore present in powdered form,
- pressing said ground matrix glass mixed with the luminophore present in powdered form, and
- sintering said pressed mixture containing the matrix glass and the luminophore.
