Abstract
A system and method allows a user to display the appearance of an image when printed on one of a plurality of configurable color printers. The configurable color printers include at least one replaceable colorant. The system and method take the effect of the currently mounted colorant into account when generating the displayed image. The displayed image can be used as a soft proof for printing purposes.
Claims16
A method for producing a soft proof of an image to be printed on one of a plurality of configurable color printers, comprising:
- receiving, from each of a plurality of configurable color printers, profile information, the profile information comprising the current colorant configuration attached to the printer;
- transforming a predefined electronic color image to a color space that represents the colors as would be printed by each of the configurable color printers;
- displaying the transformed electronic color image;
- and
- selecting one of the plurality of configurable color printers to print the electronic color image.
A system for providing a soft proof corresponding to an image to be printed by one of a plurality of configurable color printers, comprising:
- a plurality of color printers, each color printer including one configurable colorant;
- a job server, operatively connected to said plurality of color printers, to receive status information from each printer, the status information including identification of a replaceable colorant currently installed in the color printer, a profile describing a color space corresponding to the replaceable colorants currently installed in the color printer, and a current operating state of the color printer;
- a user interface including a color display unit;
- and
- a color conversion unit, operatively connected to said job server and said color display unit;
- said conversion unit using the profile for a selected printer to generate a electronic color image that represents the color image as would be printed by the selected printer;
- said color display unit displaying the electronic color image generated by said conversion unit as a soft proof of the image to be printed on the selected printer.
