A liquid crystal display device comprising:

• a plurality of scanning signal lines;
• a plurality of data signal lines;
• a first pixel including a first liquid crystal layer;
• a second pixel including a second liquid crystal layer having a thickness equal to a thickness of the first liquid crystal layer;
• a third pixel including a third liquid crystal layer having a thickness smaller than the thickness of the first liquid crystal layer and the thickness of the second liquid crystal layer;
• and
• a gray scale transition emphasis process section for respectively setting first through third output gray scales of a current frame on the basis of (i) first through third input gray scales of the current frame and (ii) first through third gray scales of a frame which is one frame before the current frame,
• the first through third output gray scales being respectively set for the first through third pixels in accordance with the thicknesses of the respective first through third liquid crystal layers at least so that the first and second output gray scales for the first and second pixels, respectively, are higher than the third output gray scale for the third pixel, in a case where the first through third pixels display an identical gray scale.

A driving method for driving a liquid crystal display device,

• said liquid crystal display device including:
• a plurality of scanning signal lines;
• a plurality of data signal lines;
• a first pixel including a first liquid crystal layer;
• a second pixel including a second liquid crystal layer having a thickness smaller than a thickness of the first liquid crystal layer;
• and
• a third pixel including a third liquid crystal layer having a thickness smaller than the thickness of the second liquid crystal layer,
• said driving method comprising the step of:
• respectively setting first through third output gray scales of a current frame on the basis of (i) first through third input gray scales of the current frame and (ii) first through third gray scales of a frame which is one frame before the current frame,
• the first through third output gray scales being respectively set for the first through third pixels in accordance with the thicknesses of the respective first through third liquid crystal layers so that (i) the second output gray scale for the second pixel is higher than the third output gray scale for the third pixel and (ii) the first output gray scale for the first pixel is higher than the second output gray scale, in a case where the first through third pixels display an identical gray scale.

A driving method for driving a liquid crystal display device,

• said liquid crystal display device including:
• a plurality of scanning signal lines;
• a plurality of data signal lines;
• a first pixel including a first liquid crystal layer;
• a second pixel including a second liquid crystal layer having a thickness equal to a thickness of the first liquid crystal layer;
• and
• a third pixel including a third liquid crystal layer having a thickness smaller than the thickness of the first liquid crystal layer and the thickness of the second liquid crystal layer,
• said driving method comprising the step of:
• respectively setting first through third output gray scales of a current frame on the basis of (i) first through third input gray scales of the current frame and (ii) first through third gray scales of a frame which is one frame before the current frame,
• the first through third output gray scales being respectively set for the first through third pixels in accordance with the thicknesses of the respective first through third liquid crystal layers at least so that the first and second output gray scales for the first and second pixels, respectively, are higher than the third output gray scale for the third pixel, in a case where the first through third pixels display an identical gray scale.
