A personal transportation and freight delivery system that can be operated as a fully automated driverless land transportation system consisting of vehicles that move on their own propulsion on a pair of overhead parallel steel rails that form a single track and allows people to go anywhere the tracks can take them and delivery of freight anywhere along the tracks. Passengers and freight are transported inside a module that hangs from a propulsion dolly with in-line wheels to roll along such tracks. Electric motors are used for propulsion with power supplied at the tracks assembly; however, the system is also suited for internal combustion engines. There's no need for track switches to route vehicles to its destination as each vehicle has a steering mechanism. Rubber bumpers at each end of the propulsion dollies allow the vehicles to fit bumper-to-bumper along the tracks.
-A personal transportation and freight delivery system that can be operated as a fully automated driverless land transportation system consisting of vehicles that go on their own propulsion from one place to another moving on a pair of overhead parallel steel rails that form a single track and allows people to go anywhere the tracks can take them and delivery of freight anywhere along the tracks, were there is no need for track switches to route vehicles to its destination as each vehicle has a steering mechanism and “Y” shaped junctions and forks are used when tracks merge and split so that each vehicle is able to follow a continuous path from beginning to end of a programmed trip, where there are no crossings along the tracks path so there's no need for such vehicles to stop until they get to their destination;
-A vehicle for such a transportation system of claim 1 comprising:
-A pair of overhead parallel steel rails referred to in claims 1 & 2 that form a single track for in-line wheels attached to a propulsion dolly referred to in claims 1 & 2 to roll along such tracks.
-Other wheels or rollers attached to a propulsion dolly referred to in claims 1 & 2 used to provide stability for the vehicles and a safer ride for passengers and freight of the transportation system of claim 1 as these glide against the bottom of the parallel steel rails of claim 3.
-A wheel that rolls along a track formed by two parallel overhead steel rails of claim 3 attached to a propulsion dolly referred to in claims 1 & 2 that consists of two sides that rest over such parallel steel rails and a center part that protrudes into the track that provides for vehicle direction at junctions and forks along a tracks network or trackway of the transportation system of claim 1, keeps the wheel inside the track and prevents the dolly from tipping over.
-Such a wheel of claim 5 split in two similar sections so that a sprocket and chain or a set of pinions used as a propulsion mechanism for a propulsion dolly referred to in claims 1 & 2 can be installed between the two sections and an electric motor inside such a dolly split in two similar sections so that a sprocket and chain or a set of pinions used to transfer torque to such a wheel can be installed between the two sections.
-A propulsion dolly referred to in claims 1 & 2 from which a passengers or a freight transportation module hangs, with in-line wheels as those of claim 5 attached to it to roll along a track formed by two overhead parallel steel rails of claim 3 that has at least one drive wheel that makes the vehicles of claim 2 move along such tracks and one direction wheel that allows the vehicles to take the corresponding track at forks and junctions along a tracks network or trackway of the transportation system of claim 1 so that a vehicle can get to a programmed destination;
-Such a propulsion dolly of claim 7 with motorized wheels on top of it used as a propulsion mechanism as these turn against a metal or composite materials band attached to the bottom of a structural steel pipe in the tracks assembly of the transportation system of claim 1, where the use of a drive wheel referred to in claim 7 is optional.
-A metal or composite materials band attached to the bottom of a structural steel pipe in the tracks assembly of the transportation system of claim 1 that allows motorized wheels on top of a propulsion dolly of claim 8 to provide movement for the vehicles of claim 2 as these turn against such a band.
-A forked pipe or rod attached to a direction wheel of a propulsion dolly of claims 7 & 8 that has iron flanges at the other end and is used as a steering mechanism for the vehicles of claim 2 as the pipe or rod turns either side when the corresponding electromagnetic coils are energized and attract such flanges so that the vehicles can take the corresponding track at forks along a tracks network or trackway of the transportation system of claim 1 to get to a programmed destination.
-A hanger referred to in claim 2 used to suspend a passengers or a freight transportation module from the propulsion dolly of claims 7 & 8 that allows the modules to swing out in curved track sections so as to diffuse the centrifugal force exerted on the modules when traversing curved track sections and to remain in a horizontal position when the dolly traverses inclined track sections resulting in a more comfortable ride for passengers of the transportation system of claim 1 that is also used to allow passengers to get in and out of a passengers transportation module and loading and unloading of a freight transportation module at ground level.
-A passengers or a freight transportation module referred to in claims 1 & 2 that hangs from a propulsion dolly of claims 7 & 8 attached to a hanger such as that of claim 11.
