Abstract
A reactor vessel includes a plenum and a reactor core with first and second sets of channels. A blanket salt flows through the first set of channels, and a fuel salt flows through the second set of channels. The plenum receives the blanket salt from the first set of channels. The blanket salt provides a breed-stock for a fission reaction in the fuel salt and transfers heat generated by the fission reaction without mixing with the fuel salt.
Claims20
An reactor vessel comprising:
- a reactor core having a first set of channels and a second set of channels, a blanket salt flowing through the first set of channels and a fuel salt flowing through the second set of channels;
- and
- a plenum that receives the blanket salt from the first set of channels, the blanket salt providing a breed-stock for a fission reaction in the fuel salt, and the blanket salt transferring heat generated by the fission reaction without mixing with the fuel salt.
A two-fluid molten-salt reactor comprising:
- an enclosure that includes a pool of blanket salt;
- and
- a reactor vessel that is immersed in the pool of blanket salt,
- the reactor vessel including:
- a reactor core having a first set of channels and a second set of channels, the blanket salt flowing through the first set of channels and a fuel salt flowing through the second set of channels;
- and
- a plenum that receives the blanket salt from the first set of channels, the blanket salt providing a breed-stock for a fission reaction in the fuel salt, and the blanket salt transferring heat generated by the fission reaction without mixing with the fuel salt.

A method comprising:
- immersing a reactor vessel having a reactor core and a plenum in a pool of blanket salt;
- circulating the blanket salt through a first set of channels passing through the reactor core;
- receiving the blanket salt from the first set of channels in the plenum;
- circulating a fuel salt though a second set of channels passing through the reactor core;
- and
- transferring heat generated by a fission reaction in the fuel salt to the blanket salt without mixing the blanket salt with the fuel salt, the blanket salt providing a breed-stock for the fission reaction.

A method comprising:
- circulating a blanket salt through a first set of channels passing through a reactor core;
- receiving the blanket salt from the first set of channels in a plenum;
- circulating a fuel salt though a second set of channels passing through core;
- and
- transferring heat generated by a fission reaction in the fuel salt to the blanket salt without mixing the blanket salt with the fuel salt, the blanket salt providing a breed-stock for the fission reaction.
