## Abstract

The present invention provides compositions and methods for treating or preventing viral infections.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A fusion polypeptide comprising a first polypeptide operably linked to a second polypeptide wherein the first polypeptide carries at least one glycan selected from the group consisting of:
a) a Siaα3Galβ4GlcNAcβ glycan,
b) a Siaα3Galβ3GlcNAcβ glycan,
c) a Siaα6Galβ4GlcNAcβ glycan,
d) a Siaα6Galβ3GlcNAcβ glycan,
e) a Fucα2Galβ3GalNAcα glycan
f) a Fucα2Galβ3GlcNAcβ glycan and
g) a Fucα2Galβ4GlcNAcβ glycan,
and the second polypeptide comprises at least a region of an immunoglobulin polypeptide.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein the first polypeptide is a mucin polypeptide.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein said glycan is terminal.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein said glycan is multivalent.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 2, wherein the mucin is selected from the group consisting of PSGL-1, MUC1, MUC2, MUC3, MUC4, MUCSa, MUCSb, MUCSc, MUC6, MUC11, MUC12, CD34, CD43, CD45, CD96, GlyCAM-1, MAdCAM, or a fragment thereof.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 2, wherein said mucin polypeptide comprises at least a region of a P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1.

### Claim 7 (depends on 2)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 2, wherein said mucin polypeptide includes an extracellular portion of a P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein the first polypeptide is an alpha glycoprotein polypeptide.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein the first polypeptide comprises at least a region of an alpha-1-acid glycoprotein.

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein the second polypeptide comprises a region of a heavy chain immunoglobulin polypeptide.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The fusion polypeptide of claim 1, wherein said second polypeptide comprises an Fc region of an immunoglobulin heavy chain.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

A method of decreasing adhesion of a virus to a cell, comprising contacting the virus with the fusion polypeptide of claim 1.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

A method of preventing viral or alleviating a symptom of viral infection in a subject in need thereof comprising administering to the subject the fusion polypeptide of claim 1.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The method of claim 12, wherein the virus is an oculotropic virus, a human influenza virus, an avian influenza virus, a recombination of a human and an avian influenza virus, or a Norovirus.
