Abstract
An apparatus for use in allocating resource in a wireless communication system, where the apparatus comprises mapping logic arranged to map one or more services to individual radio bearers of a plurality of radio bearers; reporting logic arranged to indicate buffer occupancy for the plurality of radio bearers; and prioritization logic arranged to prioritize the allocated resource across multiple wireless communication units on a radio bearer basis.
Claims22
Apparatus located in a radio access network (RAN) for use in allocating resource in a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:
- a receiver for receiving a message from at least one wireless communication unit identifying buffer occupancy for individual radio bearers;
- weighting logic operable to provide a set of scheduling weight values for at least one service across a plurality of users;
- prioritization logic for allocating bandwidth resource to individual radio bearers according to the set of scheduling weight values and based on the identified buffer occupancy prioritizing an allocated resource for the at least one service across multiple wireless communication units on a radio bearer basis;
- and
- a transmitter operably coupled to a signal processor and operable to transmit the set of scheduling weight values to a wireless communication unit.
A method for allocating resource in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- receiving a message from at least one wireless communication unit identifying buffer occupancy for individual radio bearers;
- providing a set of scheduling weight values for at least one service across a plurality of users;
- allocating bandwidth resource to individual radio bearers according to the set of scheduling weight values and based on the identified buffer occupancy;
- prioritizing an allocated resource for the at least one service across multiple wireless communication units on a radio bearer basis;
- and
- transmitting the set of scheduling weight values to a wireless communication unit.
A wireless communication system comprising a radio access network (RAN) facilitating communication to a plurality of wireless communication units, the wireless communication system comprising at a radio access network:
- a receiver for receiving a message from at least one wireless communication unit identifying buffer occupancy for individual radio bearers;
- weighting logic operable to provide a set of scheduling weight values for at least one service across a plurality of users;
- prioritization logic for allocating bandwidth resource to individual radio bearers according to the set of scheduling weight values and based on the identified buffer occupancy and prioritizing the allocated resource across the plurality of wireless communication units on a radio bearer basis;
- and
- a transmitter operably coupled to a signal processor and operable to transmit the set of scheduling weight values to a wireless communication unit.
