Abstract
A device and method for transport of flexible, two dimensional products and performance of associated production processing of those products, by which the flexible, two-dimensional products are serially conveyed to a workstation and are conveyed away from the workstation again by the same gripper transporter, which enables the workstation to be selectively removed from the production process being performed along the transport path of the printed products, and to be selectively re-introduced again the transport path, in a flexible manner.
Claims20
A method for transporting and processing flexible, two-dimensional products comprising:
- grasping each of a first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products in one of a plurality of grippers of a transporter;
- conveying the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products with the plurality of grippers along a transport path of the transporter;
- transporting the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products with the plurality of grippers to a working station that is movable between being introduced to the transport path for processing contact with the flexible, two-dimensional products and being removed from the transport path and from processing contact with the flexible, two-dimensional products;
- processing the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products at the working station introduced to the transport path in a first process consisting of at least one of stapling, stitching, insertion, gluing or ultrasonic joining;
- transporting the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products with the plurality of grippers away from the working station;
- selectively removing the working station from the transport path by at least one of pivoting, lowering or lifting the working station with respect to the transport path;
- grasping each of a second plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products in one of the plurality of grippers of the transporter;
- and
- transporting the second plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products in the plurality of grippers past the working station removed from processing contact with the second plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products without processing by the working station.

A method for transporting and processing flexible, two-dimensional products comprising:
- providing a working station along a transport path of the flexible, two-dimensional product, wherein the working station is movable with respect to the transport path between an introduced position for processing the flexible, two-dimensional product and a removed position for not processing the flexible, two-dimensional product;
- introducing the working station to the transport path for a first production run of a first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products with the working station in the introduced position;
- grasping each of the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products in one of a plurality of grippers of a transporter;
- conveying each of the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products along the transport path of the transporter;
- transporting each of the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products through the working station in the introduced position;
- processing each of the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products with the working station in a first process consisting of at least one of stapling, stitching, insertion, gluing or ultrasonic joining;
- transporting each of the first plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products away from the working station in the grippers of the transporter;
- and
- removing the working station from the transport path for a second production run of a second plurality of flexible, two-dimensional products along the transport path with the working station in the removed position.

A method for transporting and processing flexible, two-dimensional products comprising:
- grasping a first flexible, two-dimensional product in a gripper of a transporter;
- conveying the first flexible, two-dimensional product in the gripper along a transport path of the transporter;
- transporting the first flexible, two-dimensional product in the gripper along the transport path to and through a working station with the transporter;
- processing the first flexible, two-dimensional product at the working station in a first process consisting of at least one of stapling, stitching, insertion, gluing or ultrasonic joining;
- transporting in the gripper the first flexible, two-dimensional product away from the working station with the transporter;
- removing the working station from the transport path by at least one of pivoting, lowering or lifting the working station with respect to the transporter;
- grasping a second flexible, two-dimensional product in the gripper;
- conveying the second flexible, two-dimensional product along the transport path;
- conveying with the transporter the second flexible, two-dimensional product in the gripper along the transport path and past the working station that has been removed without processing the second flexible, two-dimensional product at the working station.
