Abstract
A receiver for engaging a bone stabilizing element includes a receiver portion connectable to the stabilizing element, and a base portion connectable to a bone of a patient. The base portion may connect to the bone with a bone screw, for example a polyaxial bone screw, and the receiver portion may connect to the stabilizing element, for example a rod, using a set screw. The receiver portion and the base portion are slideably connected to each other, coupled and constrained in relative movement, by overlapping portions. Axial rotation between the receiver portion and the base portion is enabled by changing the relative dimensions of overlapped portions.
Claims20
A device for connecting a stabilizing member to one or more bones of a patient, comprising:
- a base having a first and second axis, said base including means for connecting said base to the bone;
- a receiver having a first and second axis, said receiver positionable upon said base and including means for connecting said receiver to the stabilizing member;
- a slide rail associated with one of said base or said receiver;
- and
- a projection connected to the other of the base or receiver associated with said slide rail, insertable in apposition to said slide rail, operative when inserted to limit respective movement of said base and said receiver in a direction aligned with their respective first axes, and to slideably limit relative movement of said base and said receiver in a direction aligned with their respective second axes.
A device for connecting a stabilizing member to one or more bones of a patient, comprising:
- a base having a first and second axis, said base including a base threaded fastener for connecting said base to the bone;
- a receiver having a first and second axis, said receiver slidingly positionable upon said base and including a receiver threaded fastener for connecting said receiver to the stabilizing member;
- a slide rail associated with one of said base or said receiver;
- a projection connected to the other of the base or receiver to which the slide rail is associated, insertable in apposition to said slide rail, operative when inserted to limit respective movement of said base and said receiver in a direction aligned with their respective first axes, and to slideably limit relative movement of said base and said receiver in a direction aligned with their respective second axes;
- and
- an access channel extending in a direction of said first axes of each of said base and said receiver, in communication with said base threaded fastener.
A device for connecting a stabilizing member to one or more bones of a patient, comprising:
- a base having a first and second axis, said base including a base threaded fastener for connecting said base to the bone;
- a receiver having a first and second axis, said receiver slidingly positionable upon said base and including a receiver threaded fastener for connecting said receiver to the stabilizing member;
- an elongated aperture connected to one of said base or said receiver;
- a projection connected to the other of the base or receiver to which the elongated aperture is connected, said projection projecting within said elongated aperature, operative thereby to therapeutically limit respective movement of said base and said receiver in a direction aligned with their respective first axes, and to slideably and therapeutically limit relative movement of said base and said receiver in a direction aligned with their respective second axes to a greater extent than said movement aligned with their respective first axes;
- and
- an access channel extending in a direction of said first axes of each of said base and said receiver, in communication with said base threaded fastener.
