Abstract
A method for removing an undesirable material is provided. The method includes maneuvering a first cannula within a vessel such that it is positioned for capturing the undesirable material. The method also includes positioning a second cannula within the vessel such that it is in a spaced relation to the first cannula. A suction force may be provided so as to capture the undesirable material through the first cannula. The undesirable material may be fragmenting as it is drawn along the first cannula, so as to enhance removal of the undesirable material through the first cannula. A system for removing an undesirable material is also provided.
Claims27
A method for removing an undesirable material comprising:
- maneuvering, within the vessel, a first cannula such that its distal end is positioned in a location for capturing the undesirable material from the vessel;
- positioning, within the vessel, a second cannula, in fluid communication with the first cannula, such that a distal end of the second cannula is situated in spaced relation to the distal end of the first cannula;
- providing a suction force, through the distal end of the first cannula so as to capture the undesirable material through the distal end of the first cannula;
- and
- fragmenting the undesirable material as it is captured through the distal end of the first cannula, so as to enhance removal of the undesirable material along the first cannula.
A system for removing an undesirable material from within a vessel, the system comprising:
- a first cannula having a distal end and designed for maneuvering within a vessel to a site of interest, such that the undesirable material can be captured and removed along a pathway extending through the first cannula;
- a fragmentation device in linear alignment with the pathway to break up the undesirable material as it passes through the fragmentation device in order to enhance removal of the undesirable material along the pathway;
- and
- a pump, in fluid communication with the proximal end of the first cannula, to provide a sufficient suction force for pulling the undesirable material through the fragmentation device.
A method for removing an undesirable material comprising:
- identifying an undesirable material within a vessel for subsequent removal;
- drawing, via a suction force, the undesirable material toward a predefined pathway;
- and
- fragmenting the undesirable material for subsequent removal along the predefined pathway.
