Holder for implantation and extraction of prosthesis

An implant holder apparatus comprising:

• a clamp for engaging an implant such that the clamp remains coupled to the implant device until a sufficient decoupling force is applied to decoupled the implant device from the clamp;
• a sleeve for locking and unlocking the clamp such that the implant cannot be decoupled from the clamp when locked but can be decoupled from the clamp when unlocked and when a sufficient decoupling force is applied;
• and
• a shaft for selectively determining to lock or unlock the clamp.

A method of implanting an implant device using an implant holder, the method comprising:

• coupling the implant device to the implant holder;
• locking the implant device and the implant holder;
• emplacing the implant device;
• unlocking the implant device and the implant holder such that the implant device is still coupled to the implant holder;
• and
• uncoupling the implant device from the implant holder and withdrawing the implant holder without withdrawing the implant device.
