A method of assessing a subject's cancer prognosis, the method comprising:
- obtaining a biological sample from the subject, and
- determining the presence of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO:
- 1 in the biological sample,
- wherein the subject is determined to have a good prognosis if the gene is present on both chromosomes or to have a poor prognosis if the gene is missing from one of the chromosomes.

A method of assessing a subject's cancer prognosis, the method comprising:
- obtaining a biological sample from the subject;
- and
- determining the expression level of a gene encoding a polypeptide containing SEQ ID NO:
- 1 in the biological sample,
- wherein the subject is determined to have a good prognosis if the expression level increases after a cancer treatment or to have a poor prognosis if the expression level fails to increase after the cancer treatment.
