Abstract
Nano-colloids of near monodisperse, carbon-coated SnO2 nano-colloids. There are also carbon-coated SnO2 nanoparticles. There are also SnO2/carbon composite hollow spheres as well as an anode of a Li-ion battery having the nano-colloids. There is also a method for synthesizing SnO2 nano-colloids. There are also coaxial SnO2@carbon hollow nanospheres, a method for making coaxial SnO2@carbon hollow nanospheres and an anode of a Li— ion battery formed from the coaxial SnO2@-carbon hollow nanospheres.
Claims24
Nano-colloids comprising carbon-coated SnO2 nano-colloids.
A method of synthesizing SnO2 nano-colloids, comprising the steps of
- (a) dissolving potassium stannate in a glucose solution;
- (b) heating the glucose solution to a temperature ranging from about 160° C. to about 200° C. for about 2 hours to about 8 hours to obtain a powder;
- and
- (c) carbonizing the powder by heating to a temperature ranging from about 450° C. to about 700° C. for about 2 hours to about 8 hours.
Coaxial SnO2@carbon hollow nanospheres, comprising a hollow SnO2 shell having an outer shell of carbon.
A method for making the coaxial SnO2@carbon hollow nanospheres, comprising the steps of:
- (a) synthesizing substantially monodisperse silica nanospheres;
- (b) coating SnO2 double-shells on the silica nanospheres;
- (c) coating the SnO2@silica with a polysaccharide;
- (d) carbonizing the polysaccharide under an inert atmosphere;
- and
- (e) removing the silica nanospheres by addition of acid or base.
Mesoporous SnO2 hollow nanospheres having a plurality of pores ranging from about 3 nm to about 5 nm in diameter.
