A process for the production of a fire insulation material, the process comprising the steps of vibration of a decomposable substance into alkali earth silicate fibres to form the insulation material; a fire insulation material obtainable by the above process, suitably in the form of a mat; a fire insulation material comprising alkali earth silicate fibres and a decomposable substance.
