An animal containment cage comprising a cover, a base and a water bottle receptacle in the cover, wherein:
- the water bottle receptacle comprises a sidewall the exterior of which sidewall is a distance less than or equal to about 0.50 inches from a cage wall when the cover is attached to the base;
- the cover and base are constructed from a polymer;
- and
- the cover and the base are about 0.01 inches to about 0.08 inches thick.
