Abstract
A method for cutting teeth in workpieces, wherein, in a roughing operation, a substantially uncut blank receives rough teeth using a cutting tool having cutting teeth. Operation teeth are produced, the tooth width of which is defined by the spacing between the flanks of the teeth and is greater than the target dimension. In a subsequent deburring operation, a chamfer is incorporated into the end face edge of the tooth flanks, accompanied by the removal of an end face burr. Lastly, in a smoothing operation, the tooth width of the teeth is brought to the target dimension by machining the tooth flanks.
Claims10
A method for cutting teeth in workpieces comprising:
- roughing operation in which operation teeth of a target dimension are produced, wherein a substantially uncut blank receives rough teeth using a first cutting tool having cutting teeth and a tooth width, the tooth width of which is defined by spacing between flanks of the teeth and is greater than the target dimension;
- a subsequent deburring operation, wherein a chamfer is incorporated into an end face edge of the tooth flanks, accompanied by the removal of an end face burr;
- and
- a smoothing operation, wherein the tooth width of the teeth is brought to the target dimension by machining the tooth flanks;
- and
- wherein a roughing tool having roughing teeth is used in the roughing operation, the roughing teeth having a roughing tooth width and a height that substantially corresponds to the target dimension of tooth gap depth, and a smoothing tool having smoothing teeth is used in the smoothing operation, the smoothing tooth having a height that is less than the roughing tooth height, and a smoothing tooth width that is greater than the roughing tooth width.
An apparatus for cutting gear teeth in workpieces comprising:
- a machine base body,
- a first tool spindle that is substantially fixedly associated with the machine base body and has a roughing tool having roughing teeth,
- a second tool spindle that is substantially fixedly associated with the machine base body and has a roller compression tool that is combined with a deburring wheel,
- a smoothing tool having smoothing teeth, which is accommodated either by a third tool spindle that is substantially fixedly associated with the machine base body or by the first tool spindle, and having a workpiece spindle, to which two or three tool spindles may be fitted, for accommodating a workpiece,
- wherein tooth height of the roughing teeth of the roughing tool substantially corresponds to a target dimension of tooth gap depths of the gear teeth to be produced, but is narrower than target width of the tooth gap to be produced,
- wherein the compression teeth of the roller compression tool have at least one inclined compression flank which produces a chamfer that is wider in a head region of the tooth flank than in a base region of the tooth flank, and
- wherein the smoothing teeth of the smoothing tool have a tooth height that is less than the tooth height of the roughing teeth, and have a tooth width that is greater than the tooth width of the roughing teeth.
A tool set, comprising:
- a roughing tool having roughing teeth with a tooth height;
- a smoothing tool having smoothing teeth;
- and
- a roller compression tool having compression teeth,
- the tooth height of the roughing teeth substantially corresponding to a target dimension of tooth gap depths of gear teeth to be cut using the tool set, but being narrower than a target width of the tooth gap to be produced,
- the compression teeth having at least one inclined compression flank, which produces a chamfer that is wider in a head region of the tooth flank than in a base region of the tooth flank, and
- the smoothing teeth having a tooth height that is less than the tooth height of the roughing teeth, and having a tooth width that is greater than the tooth width of the roughing teeth.
