Abstract
A new gene, the recombinant expression vector containing the gene, the polypeptide encoded by the gene and the use thereof are provided. The gene can effectively increase tolerance of plants and microbes to abiotic stresses, such as drought, acid-alkaline, saline-alkaline and heat. The methods for producing transgenic plants and microbes are also provided. The methods are simple and effective. The transgenic plants and microbes exhibit enhanced tolerance to environmental stresses.

An isolated or synthetic gene comprising the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 or derivatives thereof in which at least one nucleotide is added to, deleted from, or substituted into SEQ ID NO:
- 1, provided that said derivatives encode polypeptides with the same function as those encoded by the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:

An isolated or synthetic polypeptide comprising
- (1) the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:

- (2) a derivative of SEQ ID NO:
